Greetings fellow sailors,
My name is Mike Colucci and I’m a member of Chelsea Yacht Club. This year, CYC is hosting a very special event on Saturday, August 28th. The Inaugural “Hudson River Challenge Regatta” will be a Charity Race to raise money for the National Stroke Association.
The National Stroke Association (www.stroke.org) is the only national organization in the United States that focuses 100% of its efforts on stroke. National Stroke Association achieves its mission to lower the incidence and impact of stroke by developing compelling community outreach programs, calling for continued improvement in the quality of stroke patient care, and educating both healthcare professionals and the general public about stroke.
18 Months ago my father, Michael Colucci Sr., suffered a major stroke. For almost 20 years as a member of the Sons of Italy in America, he raised tens of thousands of dollars for various charities. I want to follow in my father’s footsteps. Tying in the idea of sailing, which I love dearly, with the ability to raise money for a very important charity has been my goal since that day.
The “Hudson River Challenge Regatta” will be a 15 nm. Handicap Race from Chelsea Yacht Club to Cornwall, NY (at the Southern end of Newburgh Bay) and back to Chelsea Yacht Club. Cruising fleets will have a slightly shorter course.
Boat owners and crews raise funds through “pledges”. Captains and crew members register their sailboats and recruit their friends and seek Pledges from friends, family, business associates, co-workers and employees who are willing to sponsor their boat. 100% of the boat’s registration and pledges will go to the National Stroke Association. ( Receipts for tax purposes will be available )
The Notice of Race and the Race Registration is posted below. A Regatta web site will be up very soon ( www.hudsonriverchallengeregatta.org ) with more information as well as sponsors of this Event. (Corporate sponsorships are available).
I hope to see many of you throughout the season at our HRYRA events and I will have registrations forms with me at all times (I race on Yankee Doodle).
